Meet THe Pastor

Pastor Dr. Walter A. Wilson

Our Pastor, Dr. Walter A. Wilson Has been in ministry for over 32 years with 31 of them pastoring Gods people. He was born in Dallas, Texas. Graduated in the charter class of Skyline High School in 1972. Shortly after he married Velma in 1973. They have one daughter, Laquetha Rochell-Wilson Lewis who lives in the Garland, Texas. He has attended and studied at several schools and university’s such as; Cooke County Jr. College in Gainesville, Texas, Richland College-Dallas, Trinity School of Theology, SMU's Perkins School of Theology, Dallas Baptist University, Dallas Theological Seminary, D. Edwin Johnson Institute and Criswell College receiving his Master’s Degree in Christian Education from the prestigious Bishop College of Dallas Texas. In 1989 He was hooded with a Doctorate in Christian Ministries from Dallas Baptist University. Pastor Walter and Velma Wilson are passionate in helping people have a relationship with Jesus Christ and love to help people live, learn and love God in the way that the Holy Bible instructs.

Our Church

Friendship Baptist Church was first founded in 1946, in a little small house at the corner of 15th and Wisconsin, prayer, praise, and Bible Study was being conducted. By God's grace, we have seen a lot of amazing things over the years. However, through all the change, one thing has remained consistent: a desire to show people who Jesus is and how to become devoted disciples of him. From day one, we have been a church community that is committed to growing in our faith and in our relationships with one another. We have taken Jesus' command to "be known by our love for one another" to heart. We know this is why so many of our people feel at home when they gather together. We are family, and we think that's how a church should be. One of the distinct things about our church community is that we are a multi-generational church. From young to old, there's a place for everyone here. Today we meet at 1421 S.W. New York Ave., and we continue to carry out our simple mission: Showing people who Jesus is and helping them become devoted disciples of Him.
